I AM a perfectionist.
Honestly, being a perfectionist was something that gave me a lot of pride. I graduated Summa Cum Laude (Highest Honors). I excelled in most written assignments, tests or projects I took part in.
And when I didn’t?
Well… I obsessed.
I thought…
You see, perfection opens the door for another emotion. FEAR.
That four letter word that can break our spirit. Limit us, divide us, and stop us from pursuing anything that matters.
Those things that give us that butterfly-in-your-belly kind of feel.
When we seek perfection we tend to play it safe. We choose to focus on the things we know we’re good at and neglect the things we could improve; things we think could lead us to fail.
That’s why when I saw the TED talk below I knew I HAD to share it; because I think we’ve all been there. In some way or another, we’ve let the need for perfection turn into fear. We’ve avoided something we wanted. Something we felt compelled to try. Simply because of fear; because we were struggling with bravery deficit. Take a few minutes to listen to this talk. It might change your outlook.
Maybe even change your life.
To living a BRAVER life,
